It’s A…

Congratulations, April & Jeremy! 🙂

You guys were right! And thank you so much for letting me hold your surprise for just a LITTLE bit longer. I know it wasn’t easy. But I hope it was worth it. So happy for you both!!!

Christmas Pajama Mini-Sessions

For months, I’ve been kicking this idea around in my head.  How to set up something fun, unique, and super cute for the holidays.  By this time of year, almost all of my “holiday” family sessions are already shot and/or booked.  Weekends are pretty  much gone (unless anyone is up for freezing with me outdoors at the end of December).  But…  I still have lots of kids I haven’t seen yet.  And that’s just no fun.

So, here they are.  Christmas Pajama Mini-Sessions!

These are going on now through early December with only ONE weekend set aside for them.  If you’re interested in booking, contact me ASAP to save your spot!   🙂

Beat The Heat – Summer Studio Super-Mini’s!

Anyone else feelin’ themselves dehydrate as soon as they walk outside?  It can’t be just me…

This summer is super duper hot.  And I’m finding that sessions spent outdoors are somewhat counter-productive in that the little ones are getting super hot (read: super cranky) & super fast.  So my solution?  Super Studio Mini-Sessions.

These sessions apply only to ages 8 months & up (babies must be sitting unassisted) and are limited on availability.

Please email me for details to book yours now!  🙂

My Mini-Weekend…

This past one was a whirlwind weekend for me, that’s for sure.   And because I apparently have fallen & hit my head, I’m actually caught up with editing to a point where I can even share images from ALL of my mini-sessions from this past weekend!   So… here they are.  🙂

Wasn’t that fun?

I vote we do it again… oh wait, we are…  April 23-24.  🙂

Round 2 – Spring Mini-Sessions

After an insanely fast response to the first announcement of Spring mini-sessions, I’ve opted to add another weekend to the already busy Spring shooting schedule!

Several of these spots are already filled, as well, so contact me ASAP to scoop yours up!  To request a Spring Mini-Session, you will need to EMAIL me (melissa@preservedphoto.com) or use the contact me form on the website.  Email requests are processed before comments – don’t miss out!

2011 Spring Mini-Sessions Announced!

I said it was coming… and here it is!

Please email (melissa@preservedphoto.com) or use the contact me link on the site to book yours.  Space is limited, so get in early!

Mini-sessions generally result in 5-10 images.  Please note that if you are including more than one child/person in your mini-session, fewer individual photos will result of each child. Spring 2011 mini-sessions will include a disk of your photos, fully-edited by me, printable up to size 4×6.  Additional prints & products also available for purchase following the session.

Game On | NWA Children’s Photography Contest

A few weeks ago, I posted on Facebook for some contest ideas.  There were several good ones, but my favorite one (worst school photos, LOVE this idea) would require me using another photographer’s images.  That’s no bueno.

Then, a baby boom happened, and I *almost* forgot about the contest.  Until today, when I miraculously remembered it.  Yay, me!

So, who wants to win a YEAR’S worth of mini-sessions for their kid?  That’s right.  I said it, a year’s worth.

Here’s how to play…

Dig through your snapshots and send me the funniest photo of your kid doing whatever it is your kid does that’s funny.  Little Jimmy likes to play in the sandbox in his diaper while wearing a paper crown and fake mustache?  Awesome.  Send it in.  Suzy thinks it’s funny to put on all your makeup while you’re in the shower?  Superb.

Here’s an example:

This is her idea of “hiding” from me during a game of hide-n-seek. I did NOT teach her how to play this game, I would just like to note that.

I’ll be accepting entries until midnight on Friday, September 17th, with a week-long voting contest (here, on the blog) to follow.  Entries MUST be photos taken as a snapshot (i.e., no professional images from other photographers) and must be emailed to melissa@preservedphoto.com.

The winner will receive 4 complementary studio mini-sessions for the year of 2011.

How ’bout that for a contest?  Hmm?  Game on, my people.

*note* – Studio Mini-Sessions are booked per child and each mini-session includes 2 fully-edited digital files on disk.  Additional prints/products purchased separately.

Not yet following my Facebook?  Whatcha waitin’ for?

Announcing: Back-To-School Mini-Sessions

I’m going to touch on something here without naming names.  The guilty parties will know who they are, that should suffice.

Once upon a time, not so long ago (ok, so it was probably 1992), one of my best friends was forced to pose for her school photo in a cheap, foldable director’s chair.  Picture it.  One leg draped over the side, elbow on her knee, fist on her hand, fake smile.  You can see it in your mind, I’m certain.  I’d show you the photo (because, yes, I still have my wallet copy), but I know for certain that she would strangle me.  I’m all about self-preservation.

Fast forward about 18 years.  Think about your own child’s school photos for just a minute… sure, there are the occasional ones that turn out “kind of good” or maybe even an exceptional one here or there.  Generally, though, the response most parents have to school photos is less than desirable.  I believe I heard a former co-worker last year refer to her child’s Fall school portrait with the phrase “this one’s not SO bad“.  Did she buy one of the packages offered through the chain photography studio that was hired by the school?  You bet she did.  You want to know why she did?  Guilt.  Plain & simple.

Back in 1984, my mom purchased my kindergarten pictures through the school.  And in 1985, she bought the first grade ones.  We won’t even discuss the disaster that happened in 1987, after I’d lost a few teeth and was ridiculously sweaty (yes, we shot the school photos that year after recess).  She bought them all… because she’s my mom and she loves me, right?  Obviously.  And because she did it for me, I believed I had to do it for my own child.

I’m a professional photographer and it’s only been a little over a year that I’ve been able to release myself from the guilt of not purchasing my boy’s cookie-cutter, fake-smiling, arms-folded-over-the-chest, neon-backdropped school photos.  I overcame it.  Finally.  And thank goodness because it felt pretty ridiculous writing a check to another photographer for something so sub-par, I gotta tell ya.

As a reward to you for making it through this rant (you still with me?), I’m pleased to announce that you, too, can be freed from the grasp of those horrendous depictions of your child.  🙂

Yep.  You can look at your child’s photo and actually want to print it…  instead of saying, “this one’s not SO bad”.

August 16-19* – Back-To-School Studio Mini-Sessions are happening ’round these parts.

Get something fabulous.  Remember your little nugget as he/she begins the school year (and yes, we’ll revisit at the end of the year too, so we can see how much they’ve changed!)… contact me to book yours ASAP.

Applies to all kids school-aged (as well as pre-K).  Interested in preschool annual photos?  Contact me.

*additional dates may be added, if needed.

Adyson | Bentonville Arkansas Children’s Photographer

Two posts in one day?  Man, I’m on a roll.

I just had to share a few quick snaps from Miss Adyson’s mini-session!

Remember a couple of hours ago how I mentioned that I’m a sucker for a pouty face?  My heart loves this…

Isn’t she ridiculously precious? She’s also smart. I know because while we were shooting, she told me I was weird. And it’s very true – if you know me, you can vouch for that. 🙂

Brooklynn | NWA Baby Photographer

Sweet, little Brooklynn.  She is such a peanut and when we got together for her photos, she was super lovey on her mama.  She didn’t want much to do with me…  but we still managed to convince her to snap a few!  Here are a couple of my faves:

I’m a sucker for a serious or pouty face… something about it just gets me every time. 🙂
